The first model of the Hyundai sub-brand Ioniq celebrated its world premiere in February 2021. Now Hyundai has announced the prices for the Ioniq 5. From a price of 41,900 euros, the Ioniq 5 can be yours; the standard model can be ordered now.

The first Ioniq was presented and it is very reminiscent of Hyundai's first production car - Hyundai Pony. With the extraordinary design of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai wants to remember 45 years of company history. In addition, a connection between lifestyle and sustainability is to be created, and the Ioniq brand will represent these two components in the future.

The Koreans want to bring a total of three new Ioniq electric models onto the market by 2024. This means that the previous model name Ioniq will become a sub-brand of Hyundai. From now on, purely electrically powered vehicles are grouped under these. In addition to the Ioniq 5, there will also be an Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7, the even numbers being sedans and the odd numbers being SUVs or crossover models.

On February 23, the Ioniq 5 was presented to the public in a digital world premiere. You can now reserve the Ioniq 5 online and secure the limited Project 45 package. This version is limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide and costs 59,550 euros. The normal Ioniq 5 starts at 41,900 euros and can be ordered immediately. The top version requires at least 49,600 euros.

The Ioniq 5 is there to make its passengers cosy and comfortable throughout the journey. The handling of the electric crossover is correspondingly good. Of course, customers are not only interested in comfort, but also performance. This is why the Ioniq 5 will be available with several so-called Power Electric (PE) configurations. There is a choice between two battery options that provide either 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh of power. A rear-engine or a mixture of front and rear engines are available for the engine. The advantage of the PE variants is that the range is very good and the top speed is a whopping 185 km / h.

The top engine combines a rear and front engine and offers a total steering power of 305 hp and a maximum torque of 605 Nm. There is also a dynamic all-wheel drive. This version is equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds. If you combine the two motors with the smaller 58 kWh battery, the Ioniq has an output of 235 hp and can do 100 km / h in 6.1 seconds.

A pure rear-wheel drive is also available and this has an output of 170 hp with a small battery. This entry-level version starts at 41,900 euros. With the large battery, the output increases to 217 hp and a range of 470 to 480 kilometres is possible. The IONIQ 5 with 235 hp and all-wheel drive is also equipped with a 58 kWh battery. This costs 45,700 euros.

The model versions with 72.6 kWh battery are as follows: The rear-wheel-drive model has 217 hp and is available for purchase from 45,100 euros. The top model is the IONIQ 5 with an all-wheel drive and 305 hp for 48,900 euros.

The Ioniq 5 will be the first electric car from the Ioniq sub-brand to be based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which was specially developed for this purpose. This platform supports both 400 volts and 800 volts charging infrastructures. This is why it is equipped as standard with the option of 400 and 800 volts charging without the need for additional components.

Anyone who has a 350 kW charger can charge the Ioniq 5 from 10% to 80% within 18 minutes. If 100 kilometres are enough for you, you only have to wait 5 minutes until the Ioniq 5 has enough juice again. What is also very innovative: The Ioniq 5 has a so-called V2L function. This means that any electrical device, for example, an e-bike, can be charged and, with the Ioniq 5, you have a charger on wheels, so to speak.

The V2L function delivers up to 3.6 kW and the connection for this is under the seats in the second row, and there is another on the outside of the vehicle.

The design of the Ioniq 5 is unique and novel. They were inspired by the former Hyundai pony and equipped the Ioniq with a 3.0-meter wheelbase. Such a large wheelbase changes the normal proportions and shows the new kind of electric car design from Hyundai.

The Ioniq 5 electric car is the first model in the Hyundai family to have a clamshell bonnet. This should ensure optimal aerodynamics by minimizing the gaps in the sheet metal. The front bumper is designed in a V-shape and shows distinctive daytime running lights that are integrated into it and reflect a new light signature reminiscent of Ioniq models. You can also see these pixel-like cubes at the stern.

If you look at the sides, you will notice the flush door handles and the very clear surface design. This, too, is primarily for aerodynamic reasons and is intended to improve efficiency. When it comes to wheels, too, aerodynamics come first. The somewhat oversized 20-inch rims are the largest that Hyundai has ever mounted on an electric car.

With a length of 4.64 meters, 1.89 meters wide, a height of 1.61 meters and a wheelbase of 3.0 meters, you have plenty of space in the Ioniq 5, which you can especially feel in the interior. Those who do not opt for the optional panorama roof can also equip the Ioniq 5 with a solar roof that absorbs energy via solar cells. If the conditions are optimal, an additional range of 2,000 kilometres can be generated annually. Another rarity: the Ioniq 5 can pull trailers up to a weight of 1,600 kilograms.

It is noticeable that you have the feeling of sitting in a living room. That was exactly what the designers wanted to achieve. The centrepiece is the centre console, which can be seen as a multifunctional island and which can be pushed back by up to 140 millimetres. This ensures comfortable entry and exit and creates enormous freedom of movement.

This is expanded with the particularly flexible, adjustable, heated front seats with fold-out leg rests. But you don't miss out in the second row either, because the innovative design of the front seats has reduced the volume of the backrests by 30%. This creates more space for legroom in the rear. The rear bench seat can be folded down and moved electrically by up to 135 millimetres.

The trunk is also spacious and can hold up to 531 litres. If you fold down the rear seats, even 1,600 litres of volume are available. Another storage space under the bonnet provides another 57 litres of storage space.

Sustainability is very important, which is why Ioniq 5 uses environmentally friendly and sustainable materials. The leather seats were dyed and treated with the help of vegetable oil extracts from linseed, the other upholstery is made of sustainable fibres such as organic sugar cane, wool and plant-based yarns. In addition, materials from recycled PET plastic bottles are used and surfaces were coated with polyurethane organic paint, which can be obtained from rapeseed and corn oil.

The Ioniq 5 is also not lacking in assistance systems, the connectivity and infotainment offers are progressive. The digital cockpit with a 12.25-inch display is standard and can be individually adapted. In addition, the Ioniq is the first Hyundai vehicle to be equipped with augmented reality functions and an extended head-up display. Otherwise, there are the almost usual assistants such as motorway assistants, front cameras, blind spots assistants, traffic sign recognition and many others.

In addition to extensive standard equipment, the Ionq 5 can also be customized with three packages. You can choose from Dynamiq, Techniq and Uniq. via hyundai.co.uk.
