Mercedes-Benz maintains its commitment to the "Ambition 2039" program, which calls for the company to be ready to offer a full range of new CO2-neutral vehicles in fewer than 20 years. Part of this goal is to make sure that by 2030, more than 50% of all automobiles sold have electric propulsion (pure electric and plug-in hybrids).

The road is formed on foot, as they say, and the EQS, the first Mercedes-EQ battery-electric-powered saloon, was born in this process. The EQS 450+ with 245 kW and the 580 4Matic with 385 kW are the first to hit the market. On the back axle of all EQS models is an electric powertrain (eATS). On the front axle of the 4MATIC models, there is an extra eATS.

Numerous details converge in this model, both on a design and technical level. The Mercedes-Benz company claims to have created the world's most aerodynamic production automobile. The drag coefficient, for instance, is only Cx 0.20, which is a new low. It stands out for its ability to recuperate energy. Together with the previous section, the vast program assigned to this chapter (DAuto) results in a parameter as essential as autonomy, which can reach up to 780 kilometers. The onboard AC charger, which has a charging power of up to 22 kW, can also charge the EQS at home or public charging stations.

As we saw in the Mercedes-Benz EQA, the navigation system with Electric Intelligence allows for evaluating various parameters and the design of any route to arrive at the destination stress-free. In addition, the MBUX infotainment system's interface (MBUX Hyperscreen as standard in the EQS 580 4MATIC) presents several signals as to whether the battery capacity is sufficient to go "home" without charging the battery using the EQS.

Its resemblance to the new S-Class is unmistakable in terms of design. But, of course, we are already accustomed to distinguishing elements such as the "Black Panel" grill or the light strip that connects the exclusive headlights equipped as an option with the revolutionary Digital Light headlight technology by implementing completely new functions such as the projection of auxiliary lines or warning arrows.

Given the model's importance, and as part of an extensive customization program, individuals who choose can enhance the vehicle's appearance by placing the Mercedes star in the center, in conjunction with the various programmed trim lines (AMG Line Exterior or the Electric line Exterior Art).

The EQS is also the first car in this series to retrofit fully new functions via the "Over-the-Air" (OTA) upgrade program. This service is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to enhancing the experience of being onboard a high-end Mercedes. The Energizing Air Control Plus system, which improves interior air quality, and the optional automated door opening system stand out in this series. Mercedes-Benz isn't the only ones that think this way.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a brilliant car, with up to 350 sensors (depending on equipment) recording distances, speed and acceleration, ambient light, rain intensity and temperature, seat occupancy, and even analyzing the driver's blink or the language spoken by the passengers. The data is processed with the help of control units, which use algorithms to make decisions in fractions of a second. These electronic switchboards can be considered the car's brain. Moreover, because it can learn with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) approaches, the new EQS can hone its skills as it obtains new experiences.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS cabin's expansive soundscape is a strong indicator of the transition to electric vehicles. The user can create a customized acoustic environment using different sounds in the Sound Experiences program. This notion also encompasses the Energizing Nature projects (forest cutting, wave breaking, and summer rain). Gordon Hempton, a nature acoustician, collaborated on the creation of these incredibly accurate and relaxing sounds. These, like the other applications, are integrated with others to create an exquisite setting.

It's also a marvel on an emotional level. It comes standard with rear-wheel steering, which also helps with the parking assistance system. An action that can be carried out remotely using a mobile phone (Intelligent Park Pilot). The Drive Pilot technology, which satisfies current criteria for driving automation up to 60 km/h, is another feature. @via Mercedes-Benz.
