The new Seat Leon is available with a wide range of powertrains in the form of fuel engines with and without mild-hybrid technology as well as SEAT's first plug-in hybrid. It has a 75 kW (102 hp) electric motor and a 115 kW (156 hp) TSI petrol engine. Together they produce 150 kW (204 hp). The battery is 13 kWh and it provides a range of electricity alone of 60 km (WLTP).

Likewise, the mild-hybrid technology is a novelty. The 81 kW (110 hp) 1.0 eTSI DSG and 110 kW (150 hp) 1.5 eTSI DSG engines are equipped with a belt-driven 48 V starter motor and a 48 V lithium-ion battery. The battery collects the energy from braking, which the starter motor then uses to help the petrol engine with accelerations and to roll on electricity alone. It saves fuel and reduces CO 2 emissions.

There is also other news about reducing emissions, namely SEAT's new generation of diesel engines, which emit significantly less NOx thanks to a new catalytic converter technology. The new 2.0 diesel engines are available with 85 kW (115 hp) and 110 kW (150 hp) with manual or DSG automatic transmission, respectively.

In the case of petrol engines, in addition to the aforementioned eTSI engines, there is also a new generation of TSI engines with Miller cycle valve control and variable turbocharger geometry, which together increase efficiency by up to 10%. This applies to 1.0 TSI with 66 kW (90 hp), 1.0 TSI with 81 kW (110 hp) and 1.5 TSI with 96 kW (130 hp), the latter also having automatic cylinder disconnection. The most powerful TSI engine is the 2.0 TSI with 140 kW (190 hp) and DSG automatic transmission.

Speaking of DSG automatic transmission, the new Seat Leon is the first SEAT to use shift-by-wire technology, where the driver's choice is transferred electronically to the gearbox. Thereby, the normal DSG gear selector, which looked like a gear lever, has been replaced by a small gear selector that takes up minimal space between the front seats.

The Seat designers are passionate about emotional car design, which makes people turn around on the street and look one more time. The new Leon is no exception. It has SEAT's new design language, which was introduced with SEAT Tarraco. It is a design evolution in which sharp lines are partially replaced by softer lines, and the mix of edges and curves gives strong shapes and personality.

It also shines with personality when LED technology is an integral part of the design of the new Leon. The LED headlights, which are available with full LED technology, are slightly retracted, which gives an “eyebrow effect” when looking at the car from the front. Seen from behind, the design is at least as striking, for the rear sculpture's almost sculptural expression is emphasized by LED lights from rear light to rear light. Both the light and the spoiler provide an experience of speed, even when the car is stationary. There is also speed in the turn signal because you can get the new Leon with a dynamic turn signal both front and rear.

If you think Seat Leon looks further when you look at it from the side, that's completely correct. The Seat Leon 5-door has grown 86 mm in length, so it is now 4,386 mm long, and the station wagon Leon Sportstourer has become 93 mm longer, so it is 4,642 mm long. Together with an increased wheelbase (50 mm extra to now 2,686 mm) makes the fourth-generation Leon even more spacious. The width of both models is 1,800 mm and the height is 1,456 mm and 1,448 mm respectively.

Seat's new design language is repeated in the cabin, where it's about function and minimalism - and about putting the driver at the centre. The focal point of the sleek instrument panel is an infotainment screen of up to 10 inches, which can be controlled with hand movements or voice control, and which reduces the need for physical buttons. The screen introduces a "diagonal" graphic design inspired by the street Diagonal in Barcelona, and it is the first design interface from SEAT's new Digital Lab. The screen can work with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit. The same is i.a. the possibility of a Climatronic air conditioner with three zones, KESSY keyless operation for all doors and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Thanks to the latest generation of Seat Connect's online services, for example. possibility to lock and unlock the new Leon using the smartphone, just as you can get an alarm if the car exceeds a speed limit that you have set or drives out of a certain area that you have demarcated. The SEAT Connect App is extra smart for the plug-in hybrid car, where you can remotely control the air conditioning system, so you get into a heated cabin on cold days and a cool cabin on hot days. The new SEAT is always online because it has a built-in eSIM, which also supports automatic emergency calls.

The new Seat Leon is the safety itself with both well-known safety assistant systems and new, innovative systems. Eg. one can equip the new Leon with Exit Warning, which warns the driver if he is about to open the side door so that a cyclist or a car drives into it.

There is also the possibility of Predictive Cruise Control, which is a further development of adaptive cruise control. Predictive Cruise Control uses images from the camera in the windshield and data from the navigation system to keep an eye on turns and speed limits and adjusts the speed accordingly in advance.

Soon, Travel Assist for autonomous driving will also follow. The innovative driver assistance system uses information from Predictive Cruise Control and the lane assistant Lane Assist for assisted driving at speeds of up to 210 km / h. SEAT is about driving pleasure, so of course, you can also equip your new Leon with Dynamic Chassis Control, where you can set the chassis and steering to your preferences - whether they are about comfort or sport. The new Seat Leon will have its premiere in May, where it will be introduced with both conventional fuel engines and with mild-hybrid technology. For the fall, Leon follows as a plug-in hybrid car. via Seat UK.
