What if Volkswagen was preparing to launch the seventh generation of the Transporter, heir to the glory days of the T1 and the Combi, but it was worthwhile because this new delivery puts us on the path to one of the most significant evolutions of this wagon?
The design of this family van has already appeared on the ID Buzz. The Volkswagen Multivan is the company's first plugin hybrid passenger van, and it will hit the market next year.
This Volkswagen Multivan family wagon boasts a very futuristic design, totally Volkswagen. Surprisingly, this Multivan is mounted on the MQB platform, the same one used by models such as the Golf, Tiguan and the Audi Q5, which tells us about the good handling that this vehicle will have.
But, in addition, this will be the first time it has a plug-in hybrid version with a 1.4-litre turbocharged L4 engine that generates 150 hp, coupled with an electric powertrain that gives it a combined power of 218 horsepower.
The new Volkswagen T7 Multivan measures 4.9 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, 1.9 meters high and has 3.1 meters of wheelbase. There will also be a long body version with an extra 20 centimetres to reach 5.1 meters, which increases the cargo volume to 4,053 litres. Its design is more aerodynamic, with a wider and lower profile. It features full LED lights as standard, sliding side doors and 19-inch wheels.
The cabin has individual, adjustable, reclining and removable seats, with the capacity to carry seven passengers. Volkswagen highlights the flexibility of its cabin and the greater space available. It also offers several practical solutions such as a modular table hidden in the middle of the second row.
The dashboard stands out for a strong technological load, including the Digital Cockpit and a Ready 2 Discover infotainment system. The Volkswagen T7 Multivan will feature more than 34 driver assistance systems focused on safety and ride quality, including forwarding collision warning and emergency braking.
